We are so excited to have you join us this year in West Yellowstone for the return of the Annual Greater Yellowstone Photography Symposium. Among our variety of instructors & vendors who will be in attendance this year, we are very happy to welcome back, Chas Glatzer, Canon Explorer Of Light to the Symposium. Chas is a very gifted photographer, teacher, & inspirational power house! Below you will find our current schedule for the Symposium along with links to downloadable / printable versions for your own use.
West Yellowstone - May 9th - 14th, 2022 Monday: May 9th
Registration opens at 8am - 9:15am in the Holiday Inn West Yellowstone Hotel Ball Room
Registration: 8am-9:15am – Join us at the Holiday Inn West Yellowstone just outside the Geyser Ball Room in the hotel. We'll get you signed in with a name tag and welcome packet.
Session 1: Rediscovering the Passion of Photography - 9:45am-10:45am

Getting started by rediscovering a renewed outlook on the possibilities of why we do what we do and why it's so important.
Session 2: Photography Skill Set Refresher - PART 1 - 11:00am-12:30pm
Instructor: Christopher Balmer
Skills and technique for capturing the best images in camera. This class will include highlights from Christopher's arsenal of learning that instruct both beginner to advanced photographers on exposure, shooting technique and methodology of photography, whether utilizing DSLR or mirrorless cameras.
Lunch Break 12:30pm-2:00pm
There are plenty of area restaurants worth visiting for the lunch break within walking distance. Also, the Holiday Inn West Yellowstone has "The Branch" Restaurant that is located centrally within the hotel for those who would like to grab lunch, dinner or simply stop in for a refreshment. Session 3: Photography Skill Set Refresher - PART 2 - 2:00pm-4:00pm
Instructor: Christopher Balmer
Skills and technique for capturing the best images in camera. This class will include highlights from Christopher's arsenal of learning that instruct both beginner to advanced photographers on exposure, shooting technique and methodology of photography, whether utilizing DSLR or mirrorless cameras.
Session 4: Digiscoping: Getting Close From Far Away - 4:15pm-5:30pm
Instructor: Harold Klein
Utilizing Digiscopes with Spotting scopes. Learn how to get close up, even if the wildlife is too distant for most camera lenses to reach. Harold Klein will be instructing on the use of spotting scopes paired with a simple digiscope adapter. Learn how even with a cell phone you can obtain great video or stills from wildlife that is generally out of reach with most of our wildlife lens options.

Learn how to capture beautiful landscape photographs in camera by understanding proper shooting technique, elements of composition, metering techniques for varied lighting conditions, how to sharpen your focus, usage of filters and obtaining image quality for stunning prints.
Session 2: Wildlife: ART of Nature Photography - 10:30am-12:30pm

Learn elements and skills necessary to capture stunning wildlife images. We'll cover the compositional elements required to set your photography apart. Settings and practices to photograph nature in any situation.

Learn elements and the techniques and skills necessary to capture images of birds in flight. Learn from wildlife photographer and guide, Adam Brubaker as he takes you through the steps to improve your captures. You don't have to be a "birder" to join us.

Session 1: The Art of Composition: Tales of a Crop-a-holic - 8:30am-10:00am
Instructor: Jillian Bell of Tamron
Join Jillian as we go beyond basic composition. After discussing the types of composition, she will use image diagraming to demonstrate how utilizing placement, leading lines, and visual clues can better emphasis a subject. Look at how one image can change this emphasis in different ways. Jillian has a knack for cropping creatively based on the photos purpose. We’ll explore: Tension vs Resolution, Balance vs Asymmetry… and so much more..
Session 2: Shooting Video in Mirrorless Cameras - 10:30am-12:00pm
Instructor: DJ Evans
Learn techniques in shooting video with your mirrorless camera. Even DSLR shooters will benefit from this class.

After DJ's class on shooting Video in the morning - come back and join him to learn how he puts clips of video, sound, B-roll and all that good stuff together to create something worth showing - whether it be for professional or recreational purposes.

Join TAMRON's Marc Morris as he shares from a vast knowledge of being in the industry of lens technology and working with the largest lens manufacturer in the world. And, if this doesn't sound like your thing - Marc makes it fun!
Friday: May 13th
Session 1: How To Sell Your Images & Win Contests - 8:30am-10:30am

Learn elements of composition & trade knowledge necessary for successfully selling images and winning contests.
Christopher will cover inside information on how best to sell your photography. In addition he will cover elements of pricing your images appropriately for your intended market.
Session 2: Animal Behavior: What To Look For - 10:45am-12:00pm
Instructor: Adam Brubaker
Join photographer and professional guide, Adam Brubaker, as he instructs on what to look for in animal behavior to increase your efficiency in getting "the shot!" Adam will be covering how to not only be safe around specific animals - but also, what to watch for in order to be ready for getting the best captures of wildlife.
Session 3: Micro Adjusting Lenses - 12:10pm-12:30pm

Struggling to get sharp images? Finding that your focus seems off? It may be necessary to micro adjust your focus point. Learn the skills to do so for your own gear as we cover the steps necessary to do so.

Jeff prints larger format images in sizes that are worth hanging on the wall (and selling). Join us as we cover the methods and machinery that Jeff uses to create beautifully impressive prints:
Session 5: EXPOSURE with CANON Explorer Of Light: Chas Glatzer - 4:00pm-6:00pm

Join Chas Glatzer (our Keynote Speaker this year) for an enlightening discussion on capturing images with the best possible exposure in camera. Chas is a gifted speaker, both in knowledge and inspiration. His knowledge of understanding exposure - and how to get there is invaluable. Be sure to join us today as we welcome back, Chas Glatzer.
Saturday: May 14th
Session 1: Motion Blur: Hands-on Tutorial - 9:00am-9:50am
Instructor: Harold Klein
Motion Blur: Hands On Experience - Join Harold Klein as he walks you through the steps to obtain beautiful motion blur images. You'll want to have your camera with you for this class period. We will even head outside for some hands-on shooting.
